JAXA/EOC (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency/Earth Observation Center) receives and processes data acquired by onboard observation sensors including PALSAR via Data Relay anr Tracking Satellite (DRTS) or directly at the ground station, for provision to users. PALSAR data will go through primary processing (called Level 0 data) before being provided to ERSDAC online, where further processing is conducted before provision to users.

ERSDAC has a system called PALSAR Ground Data System (PALSAR GDS) to carry out data processing and coordinate observation requests of PALSAR. PALSAR GDS mainly consists of four subsystems.

PALSAR GDS structure

CSMS:Communication and System Management Subsystem
Communication and System Management Subsystem (CSMS) is designed to control communications among inner subsystems of PALSAR GDS, data processing schedule and ground system resources, coordinate schedule with JAXA and remotely control exterior ERSDAC Data Buffer.

PGS:Product Generation Subsystem
Product Generation Subsystem (PGS) processes level 1.0, standard and higher level products, in addition to administration, reservation and distribution of products and documents to users.

IMS:Information Management Subsystem
Information Management Subsystem (IMS) receives requests of data acquisition and processing from users, provides all sorts of information to users, coordinates observation schedule and administer charge and payment of products.

EDB:ERSDAC Data Buffer
ERSDAC Data Buffer (EDB) is a devise to provisionally store Level 0 data of PALSAR provided by JAXA. EDB partially comprises GDS of PALSAR and is installed inside EOC of JAXA.
